Dale Wayne Eaton is a serial killer in
the United States. He was active from 1988, 2001 (known). According to
Wikipedia, Eaton perpetrated the 1988 kidnapping, rape, and murder of
18-year-old Lisa Kimmell, a crime that went unsolved for 14 years. In
2004, he was convicted of Kimmell's murder and sentenced to death.
Eaton's death sentence was overturned in 2014 and he is currently
awaiting a new sentencing hearing. Although he has not been charged,
Eaton is also suspected of being behind the killings of numerous
women between 1983 and 1996, known as the "Great Basin
Murders".In addition to Kimmell's murder, Eaton was also
convicted for beating his cellmate to death in 2001 while
incarcerated in federal prison on unrelated charges..
This happened primarily in Wyoming. He
was sentenced to Sentenced to death (overturned - awaiting
resentencing hearing) .
His appeal includes: At about noon on April 2, 1988, a fisherman found the murdered corpse of eighteen-year-old Lisa Marie Kimmell in the North Platte River southwest of Casper, near what is called Government Bridge. The victim had last been seen alive at 9:08 p.m., on March 25, 1988, in Douglas when she was stopped for a traffic violation. The crime was not solved until 2002, when a DNA match linked Eaton, who was incarcerated in Colorado on a felony conviction,2 to her murder. On April 17, 2003, an information was filed charging Eaton with the crimes enumerated above, and on June 3, 2003, the State gave notice that it would seek the death penalty.
Ms. Kimmell was last seen alive at approximately 9:08 p.m., on March 25, 1988, just east of Douglas, Wyoming, when she was issued a speeding ticket by a Wyoming State Trooper. That event occurred when she was en route from Denver, Colorado, to Billings, Montana, with a planned intermediate stop in Cody. When she did not arrive in Cody or Billings as scheduled, her mother reported her missing and a search for her began on March 26, 1988.
