The evidence presented at trial revealed the following facts. In the early morning hours of December 5, 1998, Dawnia Dacosta's car ran out of gas while she was on her way to her home in Deerfield Beach, Florida, from a midnight church service. She had just exited from Interstate 95 (I–95) onto Hillsboro Beach Boulevard and pulled onto the shoulder. She then took a red gas can she kept in her car, walked about a block east to a nearby Texaco gas station, and bought a gallon of gas. At approximately 2 a.m., during the time she was at the gas station, Dacosta spoke with two other customers, Lisa Bell and Johnnie Mae Harris. She asked Bell for a ride back to her car, but Bell had walked to the station and so could not give Dacosta a ride. Bell and Harris then watched Dacosta speak with a black male in a van in the station's parking lot. Harris asked the man if he was going to help Dacosta, and the man nodded, indicating yes. Bell later told the police that the van she saw was greenish-blue in color, while Harris said that she thought the van was burgundy. Though somewhat unsure about the van's color, Harris was certain that she saw the word “Hope” on its side. In a photo lineup and at trial, Harris identified the man she saw in the van that night as Lucious Boyd.

Rory Enrique Conde Florida

On January 13, 1995, Conde picked up Rhonda Dunn, a prostitute, and took her to his apartment.   After twice engaging in sexual relations, Dunn lay on the bed with Conde for approximately five minutes and then got up to enter the bathroom.   Conde followed her from behind and began to manually strangle her.   A struggle ensued, in which Dunn suffered numerous defensive wounds and fell to the floor with Conde on top, continuing to strangle her.   Dunn eventually died from asphyxiation.   Conde then disposed of her body by driving it to another location and leaving it on the side of the road.

This sequence of events had occurred on five prior dates.   On each occasion, Conde picked up a prostitute, they engaged in sexual relations at his apartment, and Conde then strangled the victim to death, later depositing the body along the side of a road  This series of murders occurred over the course of six months and was preceded by the break-up of Conde's marriage, which occurred when his wife discovered that Conde was using the services of prostitutes.   Conde later confessed to all six murders and stated that after each murder, he knelt over the deceased body and verbally blamed the victim for his marital problems.

Paul Durousseau Florida

Paul Durousseau is a serial killer in the United States. He was active from 1997–2003 . He currently have 7 confirmed victims, though he is suspected of 7+ . According to Wikipedia, he murdered seven women in the Southeastern United States, included two who were pregnant. German authorities suspect Durousseau may have killed several local women when he was stationed there with the Army during the early 1990s.

In 2007, Durousseau was found guilty of the first-degree murder of Mack. After the penalty phase, the jury voted ten to two to impose a death sentence. The trial court found four aggravating factors:  (1) Durousseau was previously convicted of a felony involving the use or threat of violence;  (2) the murder was committed while the defendant was engaged in the commission of a robbery or sexual battery;  (3) the murder was committed for pecuniary gain;  and (4) the murder was especially heinous, atrocious, or cruel. The trial court did not find any statutory mitigating circumstances, but it did find sixteen nonstatutory mitigating circumstances.¹ Ultimately, the trial court sentenced Durousseau to death. Id. at 550. On December 9, 2010, this Court rejected all of Durousseau's claims ² on direct appeal. Id. at 564, cert. denied, 132 S.Ct. 149 (2011).

On October 1, 2012, Durousseau filed a motion for postconviction relief in the circuit court. Durousseau raised two claims in his postconviction motion:  (1) that counsel was ineffective for failing to request additional physical and psychiatric testing;  and (2) that counsel was ineffective for failing to conduct a meaningful voir dire. However, before the evidentiary hearing, Durousseau abandoned his first claim. On April 9, 2015, the postconviction court began an evidentiary hearing that lasted two days. Ultimately, the postconviction court denied Durousseau's claim that counsel had failed to secure additional physical and mental testing. Durousseau appealed to this Court, arguing that trial counsel was ineffective because she failed to conduct meaningful voir dire. While his appeal was pending in this Court, the United States Supreme Court decided Hurst v. Florida, ––– U.S. ––––, 136 S.Ct. 616, 193 L.Ed.2d 504 (2016), holding that Florida's death penalty sentencing statute violated the Sixth Amendment. In light of Hurst v. Florida, Durousseau filed supplemental briefing, arguing that his death sentence should be vacated.

Morris was convicted and sentenced to death for the May 18, 2010, first-degree premeditated murder of Derek Anderson. The evidence at trial established that on May 18, 2010, at approximately 11:20 p.m., twenty-one-year-old Derek Anderson was walking home with a friend, Joe Anderson, when they noticed a white car following them. Joe testified that as they reached the entrance to Derek's apartment complex, the white car drove by them slowly at about five miles per hour and that he saw four males in the car looking at him and Derek. Joe and Derek then parted ways, and Joe watched Derek walk across the apartment complex's parking lot towards the apartment where Derek lived with his mother. Joe proceeded to walk back to his home.

Shortly thereafter, while Joe was walking home, he called Derek's mother's cell phone to check on Derek. Derek answered the phone and appeared to be all right, but the call ended in static. Joe called the number back, and someone answered the phone. Joe heard screams and raised voices. Joe ran home to talk to his parents and then back to Derek's apartment where he found police officers and neighbors crowded by Derek's body in front of Derek's apartment door.

Rogers was convicted of first-degree murder, armed robbery, and grand theftof a motor vehicle and sentenced to death for the brutal stabbing of Tina MarieCribbs in a Tampa motel room.  Cribbs was last seen alive leaving the Showtown Bar in Tampa with Rogers on Sunday, November 5, 1995.  

A bartender testified thatRogers arrived at the bar around 11 a.m.  Cribbs and three female friends arrived afew hours later.  Rogers purchased the women a round of drinks and introduced himself to several bar patrons as "Randy."  Rogers informed Cribbs and her friend sthat he had no interest in married women or women with boyfriends.  Rogers asked Cribbs, the only single woman of the group, for "a ride" and she agreed.  Upon leaving the bar with Rogers, Cribbs told one of her friends that she would be back in fifteen or twenty minutes to meet her mother.When Cribbs' mother, Mary Dicke, arrived twenty minutes later to meet her daughter as they had planned, Cribbs had not yet returned.  Dicke waited for her daughter at the bar for nearly an hour and a half.  Then Dicke began paging Cribbs,but received no response despite thirty pages.  According to Dicke, it was unusual for her daughter not to return her calls.  The next morning, Cribbs did not show up for work

Michael Bernard Bell Florida

According to , his appeal,on December 9, 1993, appellant Michael Bell shot to  death  Jimmy  West  and  Tamecka  Smith  as  they entered   a   car   outside   a   liquor   lounge   in Jacksonville. Three eyewitnesses testified regarding the murders, which the trial court described in the sentencing order as follows. In June 1993, Theodore Wright  killed  Lamar  Bell  in  a  shoot-out which was found to be justifiable  homicide committed in self-defense.Michael  Bell  then  swore  to  get  revenge  for  the murder  of  his  brother,  Lamar  Bell.  During  the  five  months  following  Lamar  Bell's  death,  Michael  Bell repeatedly told friends and relatives he planned to kill  Wright.  On  December  8,  1993,  Michael  Bell, through a  girlfriend,  purchased  an  AK-47  assault rifle, a thirty-round magazine, and 160 bullets. The next night, Bell saw Theodore Wright's car, a yellow Plymouth.  Bell  left  the  area  and  shortly  returned with  two  friends  and  his  rifle  loaded  with  thirty bullets.
